follow red offers a concept for sustainable events

follow red offers a concept for sustainable events

Stuttgart, January 12, 2022 The future is green—and the Stuttgart-based event and PR agency follow red agrees. To drive comprehensive change in the events industry, the event experts are now offering their clients the Change2Green concept for sustainable events. With a focus on CO2 reduction and offsetting, follow red’s “Green Events” are a holistic concept that also addresses the desire of many companies to operate in a more environmentally friendly manner across all areas. With this initiative, the agency is paving the way toward a more sustainable future for the communications and events industry.

The Stuttgart-based communications agency follow red has developed the Change2Green concept for sustainable events, which enables events to be organized in a climate-neutral manner. The concept’s 360° approach includes various strategies to reduce CO2 emissions during the planning, execution, and promotion of events and to offset the remaining emissions through climate protection projects. A certified partner calculates the CO2 emissions that will result from a planned event. This figure serves as the starting point from which the event teams at follow red develop a customized sustainability concept for the client and analyze and reduce the event’s environmental impact. From paperless invitations to guest travel arrangements to menu selection—with the Change2Green concept, follow red offers its clients a wide range of options for organizing their events in an environmentally friendly manner according to their own preferences and values. After all, the environmental impact of an event with 5,000 guests can quickly amount to as much as 200,000 metric tons of CO2 emissions.

“Wherever possible, we try to take steps to reduce our environmental impact. This ranges from venue selection to transportation to catering,” says Björn Borg, Group Head of an event team at follow red and co-initiator of the concept. “Among other things, we ask venues, hotels, and service providers what sustainability measures they’re taking themselves—to name just one approach. Or if there’s good public transportation access or a shuttle service, not all guests have to come by car. That’s just one example of how we can make adjustments in many different areas.” In this way, the communications agency prioritizes sustainability right from the conception and planning stages of an event. Emissions that cannot be avoided are offset in collaboration with a certified climate protection partner, explains Björn Borg: “There are many different projects that go beyond the traditional planting of trees and make an important contribution to environmental protection.”

With its Change2Green concept, follow red is not only striving to raise environmental awareness in the event industry, but also hopes to set an example: This way, companies can lead by example with their events and thereby make a socio-political statement. follow red also holds itself to this standard of more sustainable practices. “We’re moving step by step toward sustainability. We’re constantly optimizing key areas and implementing changes in our day-to-day work,” says Ulrich Roth, founder and CEO of follow red. “As event experts with 35 years of experience, we feel a responsibility to lead the way in sustainability as well.”

“to continually develop new ideas and event concepts for our clients.” With the Change2Green concept, follow red aims to inspire new and existing clients to work together to gradually move toward a greener future.
